Sept. 15, 2011 - PRLog -- It would appear that men are trying to find other ways to impress the ladies, as a new study has found that 52% of men would eat a hotter curry that they normally would in order to impress a date, whilst 32% said that they would do the same thing in order to impress their friends.

Chaat! magazine, the UK’s first consumer magazine dedicated to all things curry, is the official magazine of the British Curry Club, www.BritishCurryClub.co.uk. They polled 1,833 single men aged 18 and over in order to try and find out what makes people eat spicy food.

To coincide with today’s release of the third issue of Chaat! magazine, which features the world’s spiciest curry, the magazine decided to look into what it was that makes people choose a spicy curry over the more mild options.

Respondents were initially asked to choose whether they like their curry mild, medium or hot. 42% of those polled said they preferred a mild curry, such as a korma, whilst 34% said they preferred a ‘medium’ curry and 24% said they enjoyed ‘hot’ curry the most.

Those polled were then asked if they ever chose a spicier meal than they normally would in order to impress someone they were dining with, to which a third, 32% said ‘yes’. When asked who they were trying to impress, 52% said they were trying to show off to a date, whilst 39% said that they were trying to impress their mates.

When asked why they chose spicier dishes in order to impress, the majority of those polled, 47% said they thought it made them look ‘more manly’. Furthermore, 42% of those polled said that they thought it made them seem ‘more cultured’.

Just 14% of those polled said that their date had been impressed by the fact that they had eaten a spicy dish. However, 23% of those that said they had ordered a hot meal to impress their friends said that they were impressed afterwards.

Dave Jenkins, Editor of Chaat! magazine, had the following to say about the survey:

“Having sampled the world’s hottest curry for the latest issue of Chaat! I can assure you that eating very spicy curry is not something that should be taken lightly! I’m not sure how many women are actually impressed by a man eating spicy food- especially if you don’t react well to it!”

He continued:

“If you’re looking to attempt a slightly spicier curry, why not pick up the latest issue of Chaat! for some inspiration? It will look even more impressive if you’re able to cook up a delicious obscure curry for your date next time!”
