Follow on Google News | Photo Call: "The Importance of Being Earnest" Now Playing at Orlando Shakespeare TheaterOscar Wilde’s rousing escapade of romance, witty banter and cucumber sandwiches, THE IMPORTANCE OF BEING EARNEST, is now playing at the John and Rita Lowndes Shakespeare Center through October 9, 2011.
By: Melissa Mason The Importance of Being Earnest Written by Oscar Wilde ABOUT THE SHOW: Wildly improbable and hysterically captivating, charming bachelors Jack and Algernon are good friends, who each maintain different identities depending on whether they are in the town or the country. Their dual identities become inconvenient, not to say confusing, when Jack proposes to Algernon’s cousin Gwendolen under the pseudonym of ‘Ernest’, while Algernon proposes to Jack’s ward Cecily, also under the pseudonym of ‘Ernest’. In truth, no one is particularly earnest, except the imperious Lady Bracknell who takes a dim view of everything. Will the surprising final turn of events conclude with the conjugal bliss of both young couples?
