Sept. 16, 2011 - PRLog -- Identifying a need to enhance the mixing of dry polymers into drilling fluids in the oil field, we developed a mixing/shearing unit, the "Jet-Shear" to help eliminate "fish eyes" and "angel hair" and promote thorough mixing and uncoiling of the difficult to wet polymer molecules. The Jet-Shear is now a standard feature on hundreds of drilling rigs throughout the world.

Polymer is a large molecule (macromolecule) composed of repeating structural units. These subunits are typically connected by covalent chemical bonds. Although the termpolymer is sometimes taken to refer to plastics, it actually encompasses a large class comprising both natural and synthetic materials with a wide variety of properties.This role ranges from familiar synthetic plastics and elastomers to natural biopolymers such as nucleic acids and proteins that are essential for life.

To compliment the Jet-Shear, GN solids control produced jet-shear mud mixing unit for polymer, called Polymer Jet Shearing Device, an venturi mixing hopper that is used to stir and/or aerate fluid when driven by a pump. It is quite often used to sweep the corners of square or rectangular tanks where solids tend to accumulate.

GN’s jet shear systems ensure efficient and mixing of soluble polymers and bentonite used in water-based drilling fluids, therefore eliminating “fish eyes”. Drilling fluid yield and gel strength properties are instantly obtained with hydraulic shearing of bentonite or organophilic clays.

The addition of liquid additives is made easy with the incorporation of an injection port into the jet pump. This port is capable of handling liquid additives such as; lubricants, polyacrylamides, and oil-wetting emulsifiers.
