PRLog -- Sisters Network Shreveport will host a High Heel-a-Thon Breast Cancer Walk on Saturday, October 15th, from 8:00-9:00 a.m. The walk will commence at the intersection of Crockett and Commerce Streets and the walk route will total 4 city blocks. Entry fee to participate is $15 and walk t-shirts are available for $10. On-site registration will be available the morning of the walk at Cohabitat Shreveport located at 610 Commerce Street. After the walk, everyone is invited to Bijou Night Club for a free after-party celebration from 9:00a.m.-noon.
Fashion Designer Tiffany “T-Shemise”
Walker will serve as Walk Chairman and local attorney Harvetta Colvin will serve as Honorary Chairman. Walker was inspired by the New York high-heel event featured on “Live with Regis and Kelly.” Colvin not only lost her mother to breast cancer but has had six women in her family battle the disease. She is committed to encouraging people to stop the silence about breast cancer. Sponsors for the event include Pink Lucy Showroom, Too Groovee, NU-GRO hair products, Cohab, 4 J’s Java and More, Bijou Night Club and Christian Dance Center. Walkers and supporters are asked to donate a pair of new or gently used shoes to represent women who have lost their battle to breast cancer to create a visual display of the devastating impact the disease has had in our local community. Shoes will be donated to Dress for Success after the walk.
The Shreveport chapter marks the 44th chapter of Sisters Network Inc.; the nation’s only African-American breast cancer survivorship organization. Monthly support group meetings are held the 1st Tuesday of each month from 6-7p.m. at 4 J’s Java and More (605 Texas Street).
