Public invited to honor those who have lost their battle to breast cancer by donating new or gently used high-heels to help disadvantaged women get back on their feet

Sept. 16, 2011 - PRLog -- Sisters Network Shreveport is accepting women’s shoe donations to commemorate loved ones lost to breast cancer.  New and gently used shoes donated will line Commerce Street during the organization’sinaugural High-Heel-A-Thon on October 15th in downtown Shreveport as a visual reminder of the devastating impact of breast cancer in our community.  After the event, all shoe donations received will be donated to Dress for Success.  Donations may be dropped off at Cohabitat Shreveport located at 610 Commerce Street up until the day of the walk.  The high-heel walk is slated to start at 8:00 a.m. and will commence at the intersection of Crockett and Commerce Streets and total 4 city blocks.

Dress for Success Shreveport-Bossier is a non-profit organization powered by a collection of local women dedicating their time to promoting the advancement and empowerment of local disadvantaged women. The organization provides interview suits and additional "employment" clothing to help clients build a working wardrobe.  For future donations, please visit Volunteers of America Highland Center, located at 520 Olive Street, Shreveport, LA 71104.

"I think the true beauty of this donation collection effort is in the symbolism of the memory of a woman will be used towards helping another woman currently rebuilding her life," says Chapter President Crystal Brown-Tatum."Whether it's breast cancer, poverty, drug abuse or domestic violence, all women have been through a battle and together we can build one another up instead of tearing one another down."

The Shreveport affiliate marks the 44th chapter of Sisters Network Inc.; the nation’s only African-American breast cancer survivorship organization. Monthly support group meetings are held the 1st Tuesday of each month from 6-7p.m. at 4 J’s Java and More (605 Texas Street).
