Brown-Tatum was diagnosed with stage IIIA breast cancer in 2007 at the age of 35. She is the author of "Saltwater Taffy and Red High Heels: My Journey Through Breast Cancer" which details her journey from diagnosis, treatment and recovery. Disappointed at the lack of resources for young African American breast cancer patients, she recently founded the 44th affiliate chapter of Sisters Network Inc. in Shreveport. Sisters Network Inc. is the nation’s only African American Breast Cancer Survivorship Organization in the United States. Headquartered in Houston, Texas, Sisters Network Inc. is dedicated to reducing the deadly impact the disease has in the African American community. The October issue features singer Mary J.
