Lads Only Holidays and Girly Getaways a No-No for Couples

Sept. 21, 2011 - PRLog -- New research by one of the UK’s leading online independent travel agents has revealed that the majority of men and women in relationships wouldn’t allow their other half to go on a ‘lads holiday’ or a ‘girly getaway’ with the majority admitting they’d be concerned about their partner’s fidelity whilst they were away.

It would seem that lads only holidays and girly getaways might fizzle out when relationship status is achieved, as a poll by a leading online independent travel agency has revealed that the majority of couples would not let their other half go away on a ‘single-sex only’ trip abroad.

www.sunshine.co.uk carried out the poll as part of ongoing research into the attitudes of Britons towards holidays and 1,421 men and women in relationships from around the UK took part in the study. Respondents were asked questions about their only holiday habits and how they’d feel about their partner holidaying in certain situations.

The women polled were asked, ‘Would you allow your partner to go on a ‘lads only’ holiday?’ to which 67% answered ‘no’. When asked why this was the case, two fifths, 42%, said they had concerns about their partner’s fidelity if they were to go on a lads only break.

The men polled were similarly asked, ‘Would you allow your partner to go on a ‘girls only’ holiday?’ to which the majority, 71%, said ‘no’. They were also asked to state their reasons for their decision, to which 55% stated they would be concerned that their partner might cheat on them if they went on holiday abroad without them.

When the women were asked whether or not they thought they should be trusted by their partner to go on a girl’s only holiday, 91% said they thought they should be. When the men were asked the same question, the majority, 57% felt they shouldn’t be trusted to go on a ‘lads only’ holiday.

The respondents were asked, ‘In the past, have you ever cheated on a partner whilst on holiday?’ In response, 9% of the women polled answered ‘yes’, compared to more than a quarter, 27%, of the men questioned.

“I think lads only holidays in particular have earned themselves a bad name, so it’s no wonder some women don’t want their other half going abroad without them. However, it seems it’s the men that are more worried about their girlfriend or wife’s behaviour abroad on a girly holiday!

“We expected that women might be strict over their partner going on a lads only holiday, but to find men were more reluctant to allow their partner to go on a girly holiday was a bit of a surprise. As long as there’s a certain amount of trust in a relationship, it’s good to get away and take a break from each other every now and then. As they say, absence makes the heart grow fonder!”
