Nearly Two-Hundred Fifty ‏People Attend Debut of Britto + Skynear Exhibit

Sept. 28, 2011 - PRLog -- WASHINGTON, DC – Making its Washington, DC debut, artwork by internationally acclaimed Neo-Pop Artist Romero Britto drew nearly two-hundred fifty guests Tuesday night to Skynear Designs Gallery— a design-studio store known for its surreal art, eclectic pieces and high fashion. The swarm of guests came despite a bedeviling confluence of events: gas and water main breaks, heavy rain and road construction. The artwork was showcased as part of the opening of a new gallery within the design-studio store, the BRITTO + SKYNEAR exhibit. The gallery and permanent exhibit is the product of a unique collaboration between Romero Britto and Skynear Designs Gallery.

Skynear Designs Gallery is the official Washington, DC Gallery for Romero Britto’s work. When asked about his collaboration with Skynear Designs Gallery, an official spokesperson for Romero Britto said, “He is thrilled that DC can now enjoy his art through Skynear Designs Gallery. Romero believes art is too important not to share!”

“This exhibition is the first of many,” said Lynn Skynear, the owner of Skynear Designs Gallery and an art enthusiast who comes from a family of artists and artisans. “Skynear Designs Gallery is making art more accessible by combining Britto’s pioneering work with magnificent pieces by other renowned and local artists in a functional retail space.”

Described as the Andy Warhol of our time, Romero Britto is recognized as an iconic figure in the art world—his work having graced galleries and museums across five continents in cities including Barcelona, Stockholm, New York, Miami, Berlin and London.

Lynn Skynear overhauled her studio store to create the gallery space that features the SKYNEAR + BRITTO exhibit. On view at Tuesday night’s opening exhibit were several celebrated pieces from Romero Britto’s cubist-inspired collection, including original art, limited editions, fine art prints and functional art. Also showcased in the gallery opening was a montage of nearly fifty paintings, sculptures, drawings and other artwork by artists, including the renowned, southwestern expressionist painter Skynear; artwork by Mark Behme, best known for his surrealist, hand-carved sculptural pieces and guitars; and one of a kind monotypes by Claudia Mengel, an accomplished expressionist painter and printmaker. Wine experts were on hand to share the fine points of winemaking while guests enjoyed wines from around the world, presented by the award-winning AM Wine Shoppe.

“We believe that building, incorporating and sharing our work around artists and artisan’s creations is a new approach to art exhibition,” Lynn Skynear said. “Quite frankly, with so many gallery closings around the world, we were looking for a fresh, more functional approach to art exhibition than your traditional gallery. And if Tuesday night’s showing was any indication of the popularity of this model, I believe this new approach will prove meaningful to art lovers, enabling gallery owners to continue to share fine art with the world.”
