By: Ishbel Lane The growth and direction of the company has been guided mostly by customer demand. Early in 1991 a program sponsored by the Oregon Workers Compensation Department contacted ERGOdynamics about working with an injured worker. The department, called The Preferred Worker Program or PWP was started as a way of reducing workers compensation costs. The intent of the PWP then and now was to return injured workers that may otherwise be unemployable back into the work force. Finding a company like ERGOdynamics that focused largely on ergonomics in all their designs meant that the state had a great option when the need was for something unique and not off the shelf. Companies around Oregon soon recognized ERGOdynamics as the go-to option for ways to reduce injuries in the workforce. Many of the machines and other products manufactured by ERGOdynamics are a result of finding solutions for injured workers, while still being available to reduce the risk of on the job injuries. ERGOdynamics soon became known for creative and innovating design and custom manufacturer of products that aid in work site modifications. In 2007 over 70 prototype products were designed, manufactured and delivered. Do the math and you’ll find that’s less than four working days for each new product to be delivered to market. Some of them were simple hand tools, others more complicated, but the imagination and creative thinking necessary to maintain that pace is impressive by any comparison. Over time the work load became exhausting. The team at ERGOdynamics went to work finding a common thread among many of the one-off designs that had been manufactured in recent years. The idea was that a single design may work for many applications. It was realized that many of the products were designed to lift and move something. The GoLift, a battery powered lift was a product of that realization.
