The second and final stage of the certification process was completed earlier this month and the official certifications were presented to GES on Friday, October 14th. GES is one of the few electronics recyclers in the world to have completed both R2 and e-Stewards certifications as well as the entire suite of ISO certifications (ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and OHSAS 18001). Preparation for these certifications was several months in the making, and the efforts involved were rigorous and time-consuming. The audit itself was performed by a third party organization called Orion Registrar, Inc. Both R2 and e-Steward certifications are voluntary for electronics recyclers. The R2 standard was developed by ISRI or the Institute of Electronics Recycling Industries and is facilitated by the EPA. The standard for electronics recycling has very little federal regulation, but R2 is the closest form of government regulation currently available. The e-Steward initiative was established by BAN or Basel Action Network, which is a non-profit organization that is considered the “watchdog” # # # Global Environmental Services is an electronics recycling company that also offers services such as asset recovery, managed print services, data destruction, and refurbished electronics sales. GES is located in Georgetown, KY, but grown substantially in the past few months including expansions into Austin, TX. End
