Calisha Clark, a Newsday All Long Island selection from Wyandanch High School on Long Island who is battling Hodgkins disease and Sherrill Porr who recently passed away from breast cancer. Mrs. Porr volunteered at Hope Lutheran Church in Selden and funds raised on her behalf will benefit the ‘Adopt A Family’ program run by the Church. The Metro Classic brings together the top talent in the Metro NY area and gives every basketball fan a sneak preview of what the upcoming High School basketball season may have in store. Past participants include Kemba Walker, Irving Walker, Lance Stevenson, Tobias Harris on the boys side and Tina Charles, Bria Hartley, Samantha Prahalis, Ieasia Walker and Stefanie Dolson on the girls. The Burb’s lead the series in the girls division winning 4 of the 7 contests. On the boys side it is all tied up with this year’s event winner regaining bragging rights. Overall the Burb’s have totaled 7 wins to the Boro’s 6 to lead the series. This years event also brings a first and several possible firsts. The first brother/sister combo to make the teams was done by Omar and Sierra Calhoun, both of Christ the King High School. Omar Calhoun, last years MVP has a chance to be the first player to repeat as MVP in the boys game and Sierra Calhoun, the best player on the Boro’s girls squad, has a hance to be the MVP of the girls game, a feat if accomplished, will be very hard to surpass.
