Follow on Google News | The Wrecks Factor: The World’s first quadratic factorisation game launches on Mangahigh!Mangahigh.com today launches The Wrecks Factor, a brand new maths game focusing on factorising quadratic expressions.
By: Mangahigh.com Mangahigh again expands the limits and role of maths games with its new game, The Wrecks Factor. The game’s four increasingly challenging modes cover a huge range of quadratics, from simple ones in the form of (x + 2)(x + 3) right up to tougher examples in the form of (2x + 3)(x + 1), including quadratics with common factors. The game is beautifully illustrated, with visually-rewarding natural (and un-natural) disasters, and features well-paced game play to keep students on the edge of their seats! The Wrecks Factor is new evidence of the power of gamification in maths, and the relevance of online games in formal curriculum-based education. Mangahigh, launched at BETT in January 2010, is an online maths resource that is pioneering the use of games based techniques in maths in the classroom, and more than 45,000 teachers from around the world have registered to use the site since launch. The Wrecks Factor demonstrates how the most challenging areas of the 11-16 curriculum – even those previously considered by students to be the most dry - can be incorporated in exciting and very playable games. The Wrecks Factor is one of 15 maths games on Mangahigh.com, covering mathematical topics from ordering of decimals and fractions through to transformations including negative enlargements. Toby Rowland, CEO and Founder of Mangahigh.com commented: ‘In many ways, we feel that The Wrecks Factor is proof that any maths topic can be turned into a genuinely playable game. We invite maths teachers and students from all over the world to try it and let us know what they think.’ # # # Mangahigh (www.mangahigh.com) End
