Trinity Lutheran Church Hosts Book Shower To Benefit The Early Learning Coalition

Nov. 3, 2011 - PRLog -- Join Trinity Lutheran Church as they present a book shower to benefit the Early Learning Coalition of Southwest Florida (ELC) and the children of Lee County. The book shower will take place at Trinity Lutheran Church on Saturday, November 12th from 11:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. Guests are encourage to bring a new or gently used Children’s book to share with the children of Lee County. All proceeds will go to ELC’s Literacy Buddies Program.

The goal of the book shower is to gather books for the ELC’s Literacy Buddies Project. The purpose of the program is to put books into the hands and homes of Pre-K children who might not have access to books otherwise. The Literacy Buddies Program aims to help children develop early writing skills, encourages their parents to understand the value of reading and recognize the importance of talking with their children.

Guest speakers include: Lee Bennett Hopkins and Robin Gretz of the Early Learning Coalition. Lee Bennett Hopkins is a Guiness Book of World Records holder, anthologist, author of “Alphathoughts”, “Hear My Prayer”, “OH NO! Where Are My Pants?” and other books. Robin Gretz will be speaking on behalf of the ELC’s Literacy Buddy project.

Books-A-Million at the Edison Mall is offering 20 percent off of all purchases made for the book shower and any books bought for ELC’s Literacy Buddies Program. In order to receive the discount, customers are encouraged to bring in their Literacy Buddies letter or let the cashier know that the purchase will be donated at the Trinity Lutheran Church book shower.

The event is free for all and lunch will be provided. All attendants will have the opportunity to become a literacy buddy if they choose. The event is sponsored by Trinity School and the Trinity Board of Family Ministry.
