2nd Annual Barber's Ball Award & Dinner Ceremony will be hosted by Valerie Warner and Leon Rogers

Nov. 9, 2011 - PRLog -- On Sunday, December 11, 2011 at Hilton Chicago Oak Lawn Hotel in Oak Lawn, IL, the 2nd Annual Barber’s Ball is touted as being the “Oscar’s for Barbers”. Chicago’s most notable hosts, Valerie Warner of Windy City Live and Leon “The Destined Legend” Rogers of 107.5 WGCI-FM radio are the Mistress and Master of Ceremonies. All guests will be treated to a red carpet reception followed by an elegant seated dinner. Guests will be entertained throughout the evening with music by Soul Fedd and DJ Reggie Double R Robinson. The evening also includes a raffle, dancing and premier vendors from across the country.  

Master Barber’s; Barber Colleges, Hair Industry Corporations and Suppliers will be in the spotlight and honored for their achievements and years of dedication for styling men, women and children’s hair. The mission of the Barber’s Ball is to pay special tribute to the Barber Profession and provide scholarships to Illinois Barber College Students. The Barber’s Ball will honor individuals whose talents are not only impressive but every one of them has given back to their community and created a legacy within their own right. Nominees include: Dawn D. Tatum – Master Barber of Leverette’s Barber & Beauty Salon. Most known for coordinating the Barber Competition at the Proud Lady Beauty Show for the last 20 years. She is also the first African American woman to create an International Hair Trade Show in Toronto Canada. Lou Byrd – Owner and operator of Lou’s Barbershop since 1966. Lou has traveled around the world as a platform artists and taught the art of barbering, hair weaving, etc. Mr. Byrd has worked for companies such as Magnificent Hair, Soft & Free and John H. Johnson Industries to name a few. He currently sits on the Union Board with Local 939 Chicago Barbers. James “Cody” Gipson – is the founder and owner of Headhunter’s Barbershop for the last 42 years. Throughout the years Cody has provided jobs for young men and women through his billiard hall, cleaners and dress shop businesses on the West and Southside of Chicago. Leroy Silva – A young, fresh and experienced Barber with several competitions under his belt where he placed 1st place at the National Wahl Competition and more recently at the Urban Hair Explosion in Chicago. “LeroyAve” is highly favored by the clients in the popular Latino Portage Park community and amongst them, former Cubs Pitcher Carlos Zambrano.
Naim Ameer Sabree began his career at Hyde Park Hair Salon in 1979. Barack Obama to Muhammad Ali, just to name a few, has all been clients at Hyde Park Hair Salon where in 1984 Naim took over ownership up until 2002. From 2002 until now he's been with Djon's Barber Salon. He also served as an instructor for continuing education at Chicago State University. Naim’s had the distinguished honor of cutting South African Leader Nelson Mandela’s hair. Jamal Y. Allen aka Allen Styles – is not only known for his Master Barbering skills in the barbershop but he is also an in-demand DJ. His skills are legendary in the barber industry through his Blue Island barbershop Famous Cuts and on the airwaves known as DJ AllenStyles on WPWX- FM Power 92. Mr. AllenStyles is an entrepreneur in several industries including hair, music and social media through his company Allen Styles Professional Services. David A. Hood – is a Chicago native from the Roseland Community. Owns Phat Kutz Barbershop where services meet philanthropy. David has participated in and won awards in major hair shows throughout his young 26 years in the Barber profession but he is best known for his skills behind the chair as the barber to hip hop’s legend Scarface and others coming through the Midwest for shows. Annually David supports Roseland Community youth by providing free haircuts and doing coat drives. Garland “GWhiz” Fox – owner of Kutnup Barbershop, US Veteran, Master Barber, Wahls Corporation International Platform Artist…the list is long on many of his accomplishments.  Ranging from being the first and only barber to have Wahl Clippers named for him to being helmed as the go-to barber for major television, film and record companies like TV One, Fox, ABC, Arista, Priority and the lists goes on. GWhiz has been in numerous publications serving as resident barber expert on products and barbering techniques trending and traditional for the hair industry. John “Jay Bee” Bivins III – has more than 12 years as a licensed professional barber in Illinois, Indiana and Georgia. Known as the “Jet-setter Barber” due to servicing clients all over, Jay Bee is the 2011 Blackout Award Recipient for projects on HBO, ESPN, VH1, BET News. Barber Consultant for Political Analyst for the 2008 Presidential Election. Four time Winner at Proud Lady Beauty Show Male Contemporary. Barber Consultant for Luster Hair Care products. Most recently worked on the set for the Superman Movie, Sherri Shepherd Gets Married, ABC 7 Windy City Live and Chicago based Play Boy television series. Jay Bee has given back by providing his services to agencies that support youth like the St. Baldrick’s Day Kid’s Cure for Cancer, Dwayne Wade’s “Wade’s World Foundation” Back to School Drive and Chicago Public School Back-to-school initiatives. Erskine Reeves - Over 15 years of combined experience as a professional hair stylist, barber and salon owner of Erskine Reeves Hair & Spa Salon in Glendale Heights, IL. For the last two seasons he is the official barber for the Judge Mathis Show as well as the Barber of various NBA athletes; Elton Brand, Ron Artest, Corey Maggette and others. His work can be seen on product styling aid kits such as African Pride, posters and billboards nationwide. Erskine is also a Competition Judge for the National Proud Lady Hair Show.
