Follow on Google News | Former Teacher to Raise Funds for Harlandale Education Foundation through Book LaunchFormer Harlandale ISD teacher turned productivity expert harnesses her past and present careers into a book that will save teachers from stress and burnout.
By: Nancy Scott Jones According to www.Harlandale.net, the Harlandale Education Foundation’s mission is “to create a college-going community. HEF provides $500 or $1,000 scholarships for any and all graduates of the Harlandale Independent School District who continue their education beyond high school. Harlandale ISD ranks in the lowest 1% of Texas schools in property wealth. Ninety-six percent of the student body is of Hispanic heritage. Ninety-one percent of the population is economically disadvantaged.” “Harlandale served as the center of my world for most of my adult life. I started as a teacher when I was only 22 years old, and I still do consulting work for them,” Segura stated. “Harlandale is a tight-knit community where people stay because you’re welcomed with open arms. It’s a wonderful feeling to walk in, and it still feels like home.” Segura spent over a decade in the classroom as a teacher at Harlandale High School. It was during this time that she honed her organizational skills in order to stay afloat in a profession where projectile decisions are hurled at educators at an insane pace. Fifty percent of teachers across the country quit within their first five years in the classroom, according to the National Center for Education Statistics. The number one reason given is not the low pay. It is not student behavior. Instead, those who leave the classroom site a lack of support. Teachers are overwhelmed with all of the duties that are heaped upon them, yet they are not given the tools to face those pressures. In her book, Segura shares the organizing methods that she developed as well as the coaching tips that she uses with her current organizing and productivity clients.
