Follow on Google News | Structural Dynamics Thailand is coping with the Bangkok FloodsStructural Dynamics Thailand and Kinzi (Thailand) keeps working through the threats of Bangkok’s flood water, and escaped crocodiles and green mambas!
By: Peter Carlisle In the past month those waters have now filtered down to the Bangkok area and anybody who lives in Bangkok and its surrounding provinces has been living under a ‘siege mentality’ as the flood waters edge slowly through and around Bangkok to the sea in the Gulf of Thailand at no more than 1 to 2 kilometers per day. While the main towns and cities in those affected north, north-east and central areas of Thailand are now for the most part dry and undertaking clean-up operations, here in Bangkok the waters keep on coming and the problem just isn’t going away soon. Many offices and factories in flooded areas have been closed for weeks and will take even longer to recover when the waters leave. People have been living in flooded accommodation, scared of robbers and refusing to leave their property, and many Bangkok areas have evacuated residents to temporary shelters. To make things worse, the local snake population of Bangkok (yes Bangkok has snakes, monitor lizards, etc, in residential areas), rats and other vermin are seeking dry areas in people’s properties. Bangkok folk have also had to take care that they do not run in to escaped crocodiles or escaped fifteen green mambas – the crocodiles are a real threat and are constantly in the news having been captured or shot but current opinion on the green mambas is that it is a very nasty hoax! The stainless steel castings production factory of Structural Dynamics Co.,Ltd and parent company, Kinzi (Thailand) Co.,Ltd, is situated in Ratchaburi sixty kilometres west of Bangkok on the highway to the south of Thailand, in a flood free province and all production is continuing as normal. The company’s Bangkok sales office at Satorn Business Park on Krungthonburi Rd is conveniently situated right next to the Wongwianyai BTS station and while it is a relatively short distance to Bangkok’s Chaophraya River - the main escape route for the flood waters – has regularly been bursting its banks and flooding the surrounding areas, but the sales office has remained dry. Structural Dynamics hasn’t got off scot-free though. Some of the homes of the Bangkok sales office staff have suffered flooding requiring them moving to temporary accommodation. This ultimately has impacted on the decision to temporarily open the sales office only on two days per week and other times by appointment. Furthermore, at the time of writing, two of the three main roads from Bangkok to the west and south of Thailand are flooded and closed, and the flood waters are within 1 kilometre of the only open road which is expected to be flooded and closed any time soon. All transportation routes will then be closed until the flooding recedes. Structural Dynamics are reviewing how this will affect customer’s deliveries which must travel this route from Ratchaburi east through Bangkok to the Bangkok Port and the as yet unaffected Suvarnabhumi International Airport, but thankfully that one road currently remains open.
