Nov. 17, 2011 - PRLog -- Habitat for Humanity of Central Arizona will benefit from Lennar’s NextGen show home now under construction in Tempe, Ariz. next to IKEA, at 8526 S. Emerald Drive, in the Emerald Center near I-10 and Warner Road.   That “home within a home,” is slated to open Thanksgiving weekend for tours, just in time for holiday shoppers who may add a home to their holiday Wish List.

“Lennar is excited to partner with Habitat for Humanity of Central Arizona, an organization that builds affordable homes in partnership with families in need,” said Lennar’s Arizona Division President Alan Jones.  Sometime next year, Habitat for Humanity will deconstruct the home, utilizing their skilled demo team, removing building material, cabinetry, appliances, plumbing, doors, and anything else that can be salvaged, and those items will be sold in one of Habitat’s four Restores in the Valley that are open to the public. These Restores sell new and gently used building materials, household items, furniture and fixtures from a variety of sources such as contractors, individuals and partner retail stores, including IKEA.  Proceeds from the sale of materials help support the mission of Habitat for Humanity. “We are a new home builder, and we cannot utilize used materials when building a new home. We can, however, enthusiastically accept these materials and resell them to help us in our mission of serving the low to moderate income families in realizing a new home of their own,” said Roger Schwierjohn, President/CEO of Habitat for Humanity Central Arizona.

IKEA will be providing the furnishings for the show home and will also be donating those items to Habitat for Humanity when the show home has completed its tour schedule.  “IKEA is very proud to partner with Lennar in the NextGen show home, and help Habitat for Humanity in their important mission. We too recognize that families’ lives are changing, and having a child move back home or an aging parent move in, is reality is these economically-challenging times,” said Robby Wierman, IKEA Tempe store manager. “There is a natural synergy with Habitat for Humanity, IKEA and Lennar in that we are all interested in helping families have a better home and home life,” said Jones.

The NextGen show home next to IKEA is the 2,945 square foot Evolution floorplan and includes a 650-square foot NextGen suite with a bedroom, living room, bathroom, kitchenette , washer/dryer, one car attached garage, and separate front door entry.  A door separates that space from the main home which includes three bedrooms, den, two baths, great room, dining area, gourmet kitchen and attached two-car garage.

The NextGen home is literally a “home within a home,” offering comfortable, private space for an aging parent, adult child moving back home, teen room, man cave, home office or just about anything you wish. “We believe this is the most revolutionary change in home building since the advent of indoor plumbing, and is a direct reflection of the changing needs in our country,” said Lennar’s Jones. Lennar decided to partner with IKEA because of the unique nature of that Tempe store, which attracts buyers from as far away as Texas and Mexico who are fans of the store’s big bang for the buck.   “IKEA is a ‘life improvement’ store and we are so excited to furnish the show home and demonstrate the value we offer in home furnishing solutions, and working with small spaces, like the NextGen suite, as well as the main, spacious part of the home,” said Wierman from IKEA.

Lennar unveiled the first NextGen home at its Layton Lakes community in Gilbert in September and is now offering the floorplan in many of its 20 communities in the greater Phoenix and Tucson metropolitan areas.   The 2,945 square foot Evolution plan is Lennar’s single story NextGen home, and the company is also working on new plans to add to the NextGen series, literally the next generation of home designs.

Lennar, one of the nation’s largest home building companies, recently surveyed more than 1,200 people in the country’s western region and found that one-third of respondents are already sharing their home with a parent, adult child or some other adult.   This survey mirrors that conducted by Pew Research Center showing 49 million Americans living in a household that contained at least two adult generations, up from 28 million in 1980.
