Living Poetry Opens First Annual Best of 2011 Poetry Contest

The largest group of poets in the Raleigh-Durham region, Living Poetry, has announced its First Annual Best of 2011 Poetry Contest.

Nov. 22, 2011 - PRLog -- Living Poetry, a not-for-profit group of poets based out of the Brier Creek area, is looking for top verse by the Triangle-area’s writers. Poets will receive awards in January when Living Poetry celebrates its Three Year Anniversary. First place is a $100 gift card, second place is the Oxford Writer’s Thesaurus and third place is a book of or about poetry.

Living Poetry’s First Annual Best of 2011 Poetry Contest was created to showcase the growing poetic talent in the Triangle area. “I don’t think people realize how special Raleigh, Durham and Chapel Hill are on a literary level,” said founder of Living Poetry, Angelika Teuber. “The festivals, open mics and readings by our local writers always amaze me. We hope to reward writers for the great work they’re doing with our contest.”

A not-for-profit group, Living Poetry will use proceeds from the contest to fund more poetry events in the Triangle-area. The prizes for the contest were provided by generous and anonymous donors. Poems must have been written in 2011 and the deadline is December 15. The entry fee is $2 per poem and contestants can read about submission and payment guidelines at livingpoetry dot net.
