The webinar, titled “A Tweet is Not a Symptom,” will focus on the rising role of social media in health communications and will be led by health care thought leaders Tim C. Nicholson and Addie McGowan. Health care marketers predict that the main focus of their marketing strategies will shift from traditional and print media to social media within the next couple of years. “A Tweet is Not a Symptom” was designed to inform health care professionals about this cultural shift that is taking place, to educate them about how to handle such a shift and to teach them how to effectively embrace social media. “A Tweet is Not a Symptom” has been held as a seminar in Memphis, Tennessee, and in Jackson, Tennessee. Bigfish decided to host the event as a webinar in order to reach out to additional neighboring cities. Jennifer Marshall, Associate Director at CHOICES, a Memphis area reproductive health center, attended the Memphis seminar. “After attending, I went back to our practice, took a deep breath and tweeted. It wasn’t scary or intimidating anymore, it was just folks having a conversation. Since then, our practice has gained thirty new followers and a dozen or more re-tweets. It’s very exciting to engage with our patients in a new way,” Marshall said.
