Follow on Google News | Humber LEP welcomes road upgrades and reduction in Humber Bridge tollThe Humber LEP has welcomed the Chancellor’s announcement in the Autumn Statement that two roads in the area will be upgraded.
By: Edward Moss Last month the LEP wrote to the Department for Transport to lobby for three schemes to go ahead. Two have now been approved, and a decision on the third - the Beverley Integrated Transport Plan – will be made before the end of the year. Lord Haskins of Skidby, Chairman of the Humber LEP, said: “Good, uncongested roads are essential for business so it is excellent news that these schemes have got the green light.” Further information http://www.dft.gov.uk/ The Department for Transport also confirmed that as a result of the Humber Bridge Review mentioned in the Chancellor’s Autumn statement, the Humber Bridge toll would be reduced from the current £3 to £1.50 “as soon as possible”. Lord Haskins added: “The Humber LEP has always believed that the outcome of the Humber Bridge Review should be a toll reduction, which would support our plans for growing the Humber economy. “The announcement is a big step in the right direction and very welcome, but we will have to wait for the detail to see how goods vehicles will be affected. The LEP will work with the Humber Bridge Board and local authorities to ensure the new governance arrangements are right and the Bridge is run in the interests of the local economy.” www.humberlep.org – 01482 611890 End
