Dec. 12, 2011 - PRLog -- This month, 80-year-old Betty Lou Dean will celebrate the publication of her first children’s book, The Frozen Princess: A Fairy Tale. An avid hobbyist of watercolor painting, Betty’s desire to become a working artist has been a lifelong fascination. But as each milestone in her life passed, her role as wife, mother, grandmother and caretaker became more and more pronounced, leaving her little time to pursue other interests.

In 2010 Betty Lou met Laurie Lee Eichorst, an aspiring children’s book writer over 50 years her junior. The two felt a connection, and quickly embarked on a creative project to self-publish an illustrated children’s storybook. Later, with a small success of their first book under their belts, the two soon began sending proposals to children’s book publishers hoping to take their careers to the next level.

Their book was picked up this summer by Goops Unlimited. It features a spoiled princess who forgets the importance of being kind to others, and in the process learns valuable lessons about life. “This was a lot harder than I thought it would be,” states Betty Lou, who was forced to learn quickly how to balance the roles of caretaker, grandmother and working artist.

Betty Lou is surprised that many see her as a role model for living an active senior lifestyle.  “At this point in my life there are two things that are really important to me; taking care of my family and remaining healthy and active. If that inspires others, I am glad I could do my part!”

Saturday, December 17th, from Noon to 3 PM, Betty Lou will officially launch The Frozen Princess as she signs books at Pop Culture, 1929 Main Street Vancouver, WA 98660. Her family and friends will be there as encouragement, as well as her creative partner, author Laurie Eichorst.

About The Frozen Princess: Laurie Eichorst's fairy tale in the classic tradition illustrates the golden rule, and the benefits of treating others with respect. With vivid illustrations by Illustrator Betty Dean, The Frozen Princess will captivate children and fill them with a sense of awe in the incredible circumstances the young princess finds herself in.

As every fairy tale should, The Frozen Princess offers parents an opportunity to make comparisons to real life, giving children perspective in what it means to respect others.

The Frozen Princess, ISBN: 0-9834865-1-0 is published by Goops Unlimited. More information may be found at www.TheGoops.com/frozen.php.
