Dec. 15, 2011 - PRLog -- Clearwater, FL – Narconon East US Executive Director, Yvonne Rodgers, has lifesaving holiday tips of an unusual nature. Her tips are for the loved ones and parents of those struggling with substance abuse and cover drug abuse intervention and drug rehab as an alternative to jail.

“It’s the time of year, when the weather goes cold and we often have pictures of happy family members gathered together to celebrate the Holidays. Yet, for families who have a loved one with an addiction, this season can produce a lot of anxiety. The major fears revolve around whether our child or spouse will overdose, or get into an accident and end up in the emergency room, or will they get arrested for possession or a DUI and end up in jail?  Or will they make it home safe tonight?” says Rodgers.

“Appropriately, law enforcement in most communities increase their patrols and checkpoints during this time of year.  Those they find driving under the influence are arrested, helping to reduce deaths over the holidays.  For many parents and loved ones, it’s actually a relief to have their addict arrested and safely behind bars, where they will not harm themselves or others, but it doesn’t solve their problem with addiction. Only a successful rehab program can do this.” continues Rodgers.

This is a critical time of year for addicts, when the pressure to party and abuse alcohol, drugs and prescription drugs peaks. To make the Holidays safer and happier, Rodgers gives the following tips:

Tip number one: Confront the person in a kind manner and get them admitted to an alcohol or drug rehab facility now.  Don’t wait until after the holidays.  It could be too late.

Tip number two: If the addict can’t be convinced by parents or loved ones to admitting themselves to an alcohol or drug rehab center, call an Intervention Specialist who will talk with them and help them safely arrive at the rehab facility of choice.  Narconon Intervention Specialists are specifically trained to help in this way.

Tip number three: If the addict gets arrested, call a Narconon Alcohol and Drug Rehabilitation facility (http://www.narcononeastus.org) and they can often help get the addict admitted into treatment, as an alternative to jail.

“No matter which situation you or your family is in or which tip you follow, the most important thing is to take action now. For help talking with an addict or getting them help call 877-237-3307.  Start your addict on the road to full recovery and a drug-free life this Holiday Season,” says Rodgers.

How vital is this? The National Center for Victims of Crime reports that the time between Christmas and New Year’s, about 40 percent of all traffic fatalities occur in crashes where at least one of the drivers has a Blood Alcohol Count (BAC) level of .08 or more. During the remainder of December, the figure is only 28 percent.

The Narconon drug rehabilitation program has a 70% success rate and is unique from other rehab programs because it is entirely drug-free.  The Narconon drug rehabilitation program does not use drugs or medications to get people off drugs.  It does use specific nutritional support and a sauna detox program to thoroughly handle both physical and mental aspects of addiction.  It is a social education model of rehabilitation, where addicts become “students” of the Narconon life skills curriculum and learn to live productive drug- free lives.
