Thornton and Grooms Achieves 75 Years in Business

Jan. 15, 2012 - PRLog -- Farmington Hills, MI (January, 2012) –Thornton & Grooms, a local plumbing, heating and cooling company, is pleased to announce that they have reached the milestone of 75 years in business.

Thornton & Grooms was founded in 1937 to serve the Detroit area. Their commitment to customer satisfaction has allowed them to prosper and grow for over seven decades in a competitive, ever-changing industry.  

When Thornton & Grooms opened its doors for business, home heating and air conditioning systems were almost nonexistent for the average homeowner; due to their size and cost, they were mostly restricted to large buildings such as movie theaters, department stores, and the homes of the well-to-do.  The very first “room cooler” from Frigidaire had been introduced a mere 8 years earlier and the first heat pump 6 years earlier. Coal was still the norm for heating homes, but oil furnaces were starting to become more common. There were still homes that did not have indoor plumbing, especially in areas just a few miles outside the city.

How has the company kept up with such sweeping changes? Owner, sales manager, and marketing director Dave Knight says, “Our entire team is constantly looking out for new technologies and industry trends, and we take pride in being experts in our industry. We always want to be ahead of the curve.”

Knight says of their excellent longtime customer service record, “We understand that satisfied customers are essential to our success. Thornton & Grooms has been owned by Knight, Mike Bergstrom, and Matt Bergstrom since 2004.
