Kick the Hoarding Habit and make Cash for Charity

Jan. 19, 2012 - PRLog -- The UK's largest independent classified advertising website, http://www.preloved.co.uk, is calling on Brits to start 2012 with a New Year's resolution to kick their hoarding habits while helping to raise money for UK children's charity, Action for Children.

Until the end of January, advertisers on the site, which attracts over three million visitors each month, can place one or more items for sale with a FREE advert at http://www.preloved.co.uk/actionforchildren, triggering a £1 donation from Preloved to Action for Children.

Ian Buzer, Managing Director of Preloved, said, "We've turned into a nation of hoarders, and January is a great month to start with a clean sheet and de-clutter, clearing out everything from old toys and children's clothes to unwanted Christmas presents. It's traditionally a challenging month financially as people have to pay off Christmas bills, which now cost around £700 for the average family, so this a great way to make some cash while helping a charity that works with 50,000 of the most vulnerable and neglected children and young people of all ages across the UK."

A recent report found that millions of people in the country are stockpiling possessions in spare rooms, cupboards, lofts and sheds to an estimated value of £50bn. Ian said, "It's time to make a New Year's resolution to quit our addiction to hoarding, such as the thousands of parents storing the possessions of children who have left home, and unlock some of the value of these items by selling them second hand. We want people to kick off 2012 with a good clear out that can benefit them and raise money for a very worthwhile charity."

Emilia Carman, Head of High Value Fundraising at Action for Children, said, "This campaign is perfect for Action for Children; encouraging people to recycle is good for the environment and something we are happy to promote, and by getting a donation for every person who creates as advert, it will enable us to continue our aim of being there for the most disadvantaged, vulnerable and neglected children and young people in the UK for as long as it takes."
