Follow on Google News | BBC 6Music re-commissions The Huey ShowMore specials and big name guests on the way as Huey Morgan’s Wise Buddah produced Sunday show gets another two years.
By: Will Strauss The three-hour Sunday afternoon music programme, hosted by Fun Lovin’ Criminals front-man Huey Morgan, will now run until 2014 after its contract was extended by Radio 2 and 6Music controller Bob Shennan and 6Music editor Paul Rodgers. Continuing in its familiar 13:00 to 16:00 slot, Morgan and Wise Buddah will look to build on the show’s popularity by increasing the amount of one-off music specials and inviting more big name guests into the studio. Producer Tom Whalley said: “Listeners tend to tune in to The Huey Show while they’re cleaning, cooking or recovering from a night out and, as a result, it has become a firm fixture in people’s Sunday afternoons. In order to keep it that way, we’re going to give them more of the things that they love and the things that evoke the best reactions. This means more one-off specials, like the ‘All Vinyl’ show and the New York tribute show that went out on the 10th anniversary of 9/11, and even more high profile guests.” Forthcoming specials include ‘Sampled’ and ‘Movie Soundtracks.’ Still touring with the Fun Lovin’ Criminals, Huey Morgan was nominated for a Sony “Music Broadcaster of the Year” award in 2010 having previously won two Bronze awards at the 2009 ceremony. On his show he plays a mixture of latino, jazz, funk, soul, disco and rock. Morgan said: “It’s always a pleasure to work with my team at Wise Buddah on my 6Music Show. I’m thrilled that I’ll be continuing to build on the show’s success with their brilliant support.” Wise Buddah head of content Simon Willis added: “As a radio producer you’re always looking for new ways to entertain through amazing talent and innovative formatting. We found both of those in Huey and The Huey Show. Wise Buddah is delighted at the success of the show and we’re looking forward to another two years of it on 6Music.” The Huey Show airs on BBC Radio 6Music on Sundays from 13:00 to 16:00.
