Feb. 6, 2012 - PRLog -- In 1982, freelance journalist Steven Hager published an article titled, "The Pied Piper of Hip Hop" in the Village Voice. Although hip hop had begun in 1973, no publication in the world had ever even covered the story, much less investigated where it all came from. That all changed the day Hager met Afrika Bambaataa, who introduced him to Kool Herc, the original hip hop deejay. The article was amazingly accurate and gave credit to most of the major innovators, including Herc, Coke La Rock, Grandmaster Flash, Melle Mel, Grandwizzard Theodore and others. At the end of the piece, Hager predicted hip hop was going to become the most significant cultural trend of our time. "People really laughed at me for saying that," recalls Hager today. "Most people thought rap music was a ghetto fad that had no relevance for the rest of the world." Put online for the first time, this article is a big piece of hip hop history and anyone interested in the first generation, who actually invented the culture, will want to take a look. It can be found on www.smashwords.com, at: https://www.smashwords.com/books/view/129763. Since discovering smashwords nine days ago, Hager has pubished at least one ebook a day every day, many of them minor hip hop masterpieces, like his script for the film Beat Street, and his original history of hip hop.
