Muncie Author Kelsey Timmerman Will Deliver Keynote Address at Service Engagement Summit 2.0

Feb. 9, 2012 - PRLog -- The 2012 Indiana Campus Compact Service Engagement Summit will feature a keynote address and a student workshop by Kelsey Timmerman, author of Where am I Wearing: A Global Tour to the Countries, Factories, and People that Make Our Clothes on Friday, March 30, 2012.

“The Mississinawa Valley High School class of 1997 voted me Best Dressed Guy. This isn’t something I usually share with people. You should feel privileged I told you. Don’t be too impressed; there were 51 members of the class of 1997, only 29 were guys, and rural Ohio isn’t exactly the fashion capital of anywhere”.  So begins Kelsey Timmerman’s journey.  How does a clothes-obsessed teenager from rural Ohio end up speaking to college students all around the country about factory working conditions, child labor, and families he grew to know in his travels?  Timmerman went from inspiration to understanding to action.

On day two of the Service Engagement Summit 2.0, students from across the state of Indiana will be involved in a day of programming designed especially for them. The day will start with Timmerman’s keynote in which he will focus on becoming a global citizen and include examples of how he incorporated this into his everyday life.  After Timmerman’s keynote, students will join him to talk with him about his work and how he’s evolved.  Students will engage in an interactive activity allowing them to learn how to make a collective impact on the world. Through meaningful conversations and reflection, students will gain a deeper understanding of their potential to have an impact on those around them and the world.

The Indiana Campus Compact Service Engagement Summit 2.0 is a two day professional development for university and college administrators, faculty, staff, students, and their community partners highlighting emerging trends in higher education service engagement.   Featured speakers, breakout sessions, and poster sessions will address the use of new technologies (e.g. social media, web-based collaboration, or teaching), new ways of engaging (e.g. innovative approaches to community based learning and research), and new ways of partnering.
