Bi-directional power electronic units for eV2G and or eV2V.

Feb. 19, 2012 - PRLog -- The electric vehicle to grid concept is a great one and does make sense. However the advance that will translate the most into real economic opportunity is not so much the energy that EV owners can sell back to Utilities but the device that will make it possible. Of course there will also be the App (software) that runs the whole operation like the one NRG/Udel are proposing.
We can already anticipate that many players will crowd this space as there is so much money to be made when the EV production numbers start climbing in the millions. Bi-directional power electronic units for EV2G may even surpass EV Chargers in sales over the long run.
Another aspect of this necessary development is the need to boost a stranded EV when no mobile charging unit is immediately available. Shouldn’t every EV owner have the peace of mind to know he, she, can be rescued by a fellow EV driver. In the case of a Gas Car, your neighbor or co-worker needs a simple cable to give you a jump start and get you going. Why not the same simple affordable remedy when it comes to an Electric Vehicle?
Electric Vehicle (EV) to vehicle or Ev2v should be an integral part of any comprehensive approach to EV2G deployment because the same technology is involved. The same device (App), that allows to redirect energy back to the grid, must enable an EV driver to get the necessary boost of energy needed to get to the nearest charging point. We can envision two types of Ev2v devices: level 1 and Level 2 Ev2v just like the existing chargers now available on the market.
Will Ev2G and Ev2v units be an integrated or separate? Will its components be standardized across all OEMs and Suppliers? Will it be an option or sold installed with every Electric Vehicle EV produced? And finally, what should it be called?
