Feb. 22, 2012 - PRLog -- As children get older, the world around them gets bigger.  They become part of a large social world, tackling everyday life issues. Often times, many parents are concerned whether their child has enough social ability to maintain successful relationships. This includes relationships with other children, adults, family members in the real world. So, how can parents help their children gain the skills they need to be extraordinary individuals?

These types of skills are not naturally born into us, but are a result of successful practice overtime. Martial Arts teaches the ability to tackle life challenges and build up the confidence and self esteem one needs. Similarly, it is about physical fitness, character development, self-defense, and strengthening of the mind and body.

Training in the world of Martial Arts takes time, practice, and progression. As one continues to progress, so do his or her feelings of accomplishment and confidence. Self- confidence is the most important benefit that your child may gain. How they see themselves affects directly how they may carry themselves in front of others. The key to this reasoning is that Martial Arts builds inner strength confidence while building outer physical strength. In addition, a child with more confidence is likelier to speak their opinion, and stand up for themselves. Lastly, self-confidence is an effect from training in self defense. Those who carry themselves with pride are less likely to become a target of victimization and bullying.

The way that children form social skills, particularly friendship and relationship skills, is completely different from the way adults form these skills. Children are constantly growing and changing socially and emotionally. They do not look for life long friends, but those who are “popular” at the moment, have cool toys, and even cooler homes. They also tend to form cliques based on their popularity. While this may be part of a growing up experience, what happens to those who are not part of that popular clique?

Once again, the best answer is found in the study and practice of martial arts. Martial arts encourages children and teens to not just fit in, but to find the right kind of friends. It also teaches them to keep their social circles open and diverse and to always accept people regardless of what they look like or where they come from.

Children who participate in regular martial arts classes will gain tremendous benefits in all aspects of life. It is the parent’s responsibility to ensure that their child is not only feed, dressed, and housed, but also ready for the real world. Together, it is the responsibility of all people to ensure that each child gets the help that they need in order to grow emotionally, physically, and successfully.
