Feb. 22, 2012 - PRLog -- A new website has been created to help people know more about identity theft protection.

Gregory Schmidt wants to increase awareness of identity theft on this new website that provides information on identity theft and on preventive tips. As we rely more on technology in carrying out various transactions, we become more vulnerable to identity theft. One can steal your information secretly now.

The Federal Trade Commission reported that identity theft is the number one consumer complaint. Half of the cases of reported identity theft crimes involve credit cards and bank accounts. Such fraudulent acts cost victims $5,000 on the average, and it could get worse. More than 8 out of 10 identity theft victims did not detect the crime soon enough. These people only found out someone was using their identity when their credit cards became denied or when they found out they have made huge withdrawals, which they didn’t do.

In our busy lives, it is easy to forget about some important things. Most credit card owners do not really care about their credit report so long as they can swipe the plastic and purchase stuff. Majority of credit card holders are really oblivious to the fact that their credit card information can be stolen anytime and be used without their knowledge. This could really be perilous to your finances and reputation. As much as possible, you should avoid becoming one of the victims of these identity thieves.

Gregory Schmidt said that identity theft takes on many forms. It can be bank account theft, social security number theft, social media account identity theft, credit card fraud, and password hacking. There could be more that are unreported. “It is easy to be unworried, to think that it won’t happen to you, but there is always a risk,” said Schmidt. He added, “If you are using social media or credit card or bank accounts, you are at risk.” Chances are you have a bank account, you have credit card, and you have a Facebook account.
Personal information from you can be stolen anytime by someone you do not know. They can do anything with your information. But you can seek protection from these identity thieves.
