By: Debora Crippa I completed my bachelor degree in Psychology and I used to work in Finance for almost 8 years. It’s quite a successful career but I felt something was missing and incomplete. Every woman loves fashion, and so do I. But I never would have realized that Fashion is going to be my passion. I opened a boutique as my first step in entering fashion world. I thought it was just a hobby but then I got more and more involved into the business. I started to design the collections by myself and held a private fashion show for my boutique customers. But then again, I had no fashion educational background. I realized that education is very important in order to be successful in business. So I took a fashion course in La Salle College. I didn’t gain enough for what I wanted to achieve, then I decided that I had to go to the best fashion school in the world. I chose Istituto di Moda Burgo in Milan, considering that this city is one of the most important fashion capitals in the world. Why Italy? Because 80% of world’s top fashion brands are made in Italy. I love the rich culture, food and the nice people. And compared to other European countries, Italy has many similarities with Indonesian culture. Italy is also known for its taste and high quality standard of work. It is no wonder that the world's best sartorial artists are from Italy. Elegance is in the Italian blood. Italian style has outstanding characteristics. The look is well-tailored, respectable, and sensual at the same time and most “Italiane” And why Istituto di Moda Burgo? Because I found that this is the only Fashion School that offers individual lessons; which respects my individuality and uniqueness. With the amazing and exclusive didactic books and intensive 1 year diploma program, I didn’t have to spend time to go through an ineffective educational program. I took Fashion school for professional reason, so I needed a school that has effective programs to help me to gain primary skills according to the expectation of the fashion world. When Mr. Burgo offered me to open a Fashion School in Indonesia, I was very surprised and was not sure that I could pull things through. But I believe that it is not about how good you are, but it’s about how good you want to be and the vision of where or who you want to be is the greatest asset you have. By encouragement and helps from Burgo Milan, my family and beloved friends; finally on August,1st 2011, Istituto di Moda Burgo Indonesia was opened. And I found that this is my calling. I believe that true life begins with living a life with purpose and our purpose is to exploit our gifts and our talents, and to be useful for others. There is no greater sense of joy if we do what we love and get busy fulfilling the purpose we were created to be. My personal aim to open this school is to help others to reach their dream and passion in fashion. I want to encourage people to take a risk to do what they are passionate about. I believe that some people are unhappy with their jobs because they are not doing what they were created to do. Which is the mission of your school? First of all to raise Fashionprenuer who are able to create innovations by combining Italian’ Finally to enhance Indonesian fashion according to international standards, as well as to reach the same european fashion reality by providing high quality professional training and keeping these designers updated on the advent of new techniques and technologies, and also helping them to acquire the secrets of trade in this highly competitive fashion industry. How did you see your school in the next future? In five years our goals are: • To become the No.1 Fashion Design school in Indonesia, to be competitive in the world's standard of quality by collaborating Italian know-how with traditional Indonesian culture • To be a fashion design school with well-proven reputation of providing the most highly sought after graduates (fashionprenuers) • To be a leader in the field of fashion technology • To have branches in major cities in Indonesia • To be an international fashion school that is affordable by all people from various levels of society.
