March 5, 2012 - PRLog -- Chandler, AZ – [March 5, 2012] – It’s your chance to be the star of your own prom when Chandler Center for the Arts presents Awesome 80s Prom, a popular off-Broadway production in which the audience is invited to dance, don blue eye shadow and shoulder pads and flaunt teased hair do’s alongside the cast.  Performances will be taking place nightly March 19-24, 2012 at 8:00pm at Chandler Center for the Arts.

Awesome 80s Prom Chandler stars both local talent and Broadway talent, all competing for the coveted title of prom king and queen, just as you remember it more than twenty years ago.  And in the style of popular reality shows such as American Idol, the audience will select the winner, all while grooving to hits like "Wake Me Up Before You Go Go," “Whip It,” “Everybody Have Fun Tonight,” and “Walk This Way.”

Reminiscent of Pretty in Pink and The Breakfast Club, all of the beloved 80s movie characters are at the Prom, including: the jock, the bad boy, the class president, the mean school principal, nerds, foreign exchange students, the head of the prom committee, cheerleaders and more.

Winner of the 2006 Improv Theatre Award for Best Interactive Show, Awesome '80s Prom is a rad, blast-from-the-past party, set at Wanaget High School's Senior Prom in 1989 in the tradition of Tony n' Tina's Wedding.  After the January 2012 open casting call, Arizona actors cast in the show are set to work with Director and Choreographer from the NYC Off-Broadway production, produced by Broadway Producer Ken Davenport.

Ken Davenport, an acclaimed producer, writer and director has worked on Tony Award-winning Broadway productions of Showboat, Ragtime and Candide and is also producing the 2005 Outer Critics Circle Award Winner for Best Musical, Altar Boyz.

Awesome 80s Prom welcomes audiences to grab a group of friends, put on their dancing shoes and join in on the party; or take a seat at the Cool Kids Table and watch the show unfold.  This March at Chandler Center for the Arts marks the second chance to have a slow dance with the captain of the football team, and this time, there isn’t a curfew.
