Hudson Valley Hospital Center Foundation Appoints Eleven New Board Members

Hudson Valley Hospital Center adds new blood to Foundation Board and elects new officers for 2012
 
March 16, 2012 - PRLog -- The Foundation of Hudson Valley Hospital Center has appointed 11 new members to its Board of Directors, adding new perspective and energy to the organization. The Board also elected its officers for 2012.

The new members represent community leaders from all walks of life from attorneys and physicians to corporate executives and local business people.

“It’s very exciting to have so many distinguished community members join the Foundation’s Board of Directors,’’ said John C. Federspiel, President of Hudson Valley Hospital Center. “These new members will bring new life, and new vision to the board as the Hospital enters a new era of growth and expansion.’’  

The Foundation is the fundraising arm of the Hudson Valley Hospital Center and works with the community to support the Hospital and its services.
Currently, Hudson Valley Hospital Center is seeking to raise $5 million over the next three years to fund the construction, technology and furnishing of a state of the art Comprehensive Cancer Center. This campaign will be managed by the hospital’s Foundation Board and a Campaign Steering Committee comprised of local and regional leaders.
Building on Excellence Phase II, follows the successful $16 million campaign for the hospital’s $100 million major expansion and renovation program that was completed in June 2010.
Newly elected officers were: Michael Delfino, chairman; Arthur Ross, vice chairman; Joseph Visconti, 2nd vice chairman; Jim Martin, treasurer; Rodman Patton, assistant treasurer; Catherine Pisani, secretary.
The following are new members of the Foundation Board of Directors:

Bruce Apar
Apar has served as Editor in Chief for Chase Media Group and has served on the boards of the Yorktown Chamber, Yorktown Jewish Center and as a moderator of the Yorktown League of Women Voters. He was named 2010 Citizen of the Year by the Yorktown Lions/ Leos Club.  He lives in Yorktown.

William Florence, Esq.
Florence has served as Deputy Commissioner, Acting Executor Director, and Counsel for the Department of Motor Vehicles, Corporation Counsel, City of Peekskill, Counsel, NY State Committee on Insurance Rates and Regulations, and Counsel, Senate Judiciary Committee. He has had a private law practice since 2000. Florence lives in Garrison and is involved in many of its community activities.

Tony Grasso
Grasso is a community volunteer and is a member of the building and grounds committee of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, Yorktown Elks, Knights of Columbus and the Republican Town Committee. He is a board member of Circolo da Vinci, Yorktown Rotary Club, Yorktown Chamber of Commerce and member of the Yorktown School Finance Committee. Prior to “retirement”, he worked with the Lafkin Co. and was a co-founder and Vice President of Metro Milorganite Inc. He lives in Yorktown.

Chereese Jervis-Hill
Jervis-Hill was named one of the 40 Under 40 Rising Stars by the Business Council of Westchester last year.  She is President and Founder of Events to Remember in Cortlandt Manor and a board member of the Support Connection. She is an active member of the Mount Kisco, Hudson Valley Gateway and Yorktown chambers of commerce, as well as, the Professional Women of Westchester. She lives in Cortlandt Manor.

Ryan Kao
Kao is co-owner of SaveMor Drugs in Croton-on-Hudson.  Ryan came to the United States from Taiwan in the early 1980’s and settled in Yorktown Heights. He founded the store in 1987 with his business partner. Kao lives in Yorktown Heights.

Ken Lemenze
Lemenze has been a State Farm Agency Owner since 1994, first in Catskill, NY and later in Hopewell Junction since 2000. He currently has over 3,000 clients in lower Dutchess, Putnam and upper Westchester counties. Ken lives in Mohegan Lake.

Chika Madu, MD
Dr. Madu is Hudson Valley Hospital Center’s new Medical Director for Radiation Oncology and joins our new Cancer Center from the Lombardi Cancer Center at Georgetown University Hospital in Washington, DC.  She was an attending physician and the Residency Program Director in the Dept of Radiation Medicine and an integral part of the breast cancer program and Cancer Committee. Her primary interest is in adult cancers and she also performs partial breast irradiation and been published in peer reviewed journals.  She lives in Mt. Kisco.

Maria Modica-Snow, Esq.
Modica-Snow has been in private practice in Croton-on- Hudson since 1984. She serves as general counsel for the Montrose Improvement District and has served as an Instructor at Pace’s School of Law and as an Assistant County Attorney in the Westchester County Attorney’s office.  Her community service has included terms as a trustee on the Parish Council, Holy Name of Mary Church, as a Village Trustee and Member of the Planning Board for Croton-on-Hudson. She lives in Croton-on-Hudson.

Emerson Pugh
Pugh has a PhD in physics from Carnegie Mellon University and spent 36 years working for IBM in a variety of capacities, including research scientist, product development manager and corporate executive. He is the author or co-author of college physics text books and four books on the history of IBM and the computer industry. He served as the Executive Director of the National Academy of Sciences study of automobile emissions and fuel economy. Locally, he volunteers for the Chapel of Our Lady Restoration in Cold Spring and is a Board Member and Past Treasurer and Finance Chair. Pugh lives in Cold Spring.

Donald Rothman
Rothman is a lifelong educator who started as a third grade teacher in the New Paltz School System and served as Guidance Counselor, Assistant Principal, Principal and Director of Personal Services before becoming a business administrator for the Rondout Valley Center School System. He later served as the Asst. Superintendent of Administrative Services and then as Superintendent for the Arlington Central School system. He lives in Poughkeepsie.

Raphaelle Sondak
Sondak is Vice President for Human Resources for the Visiting Nurse Association of Hudson Valley. She has worked for AIFS, Inc. in Stamford, CT., Help USA, in NY, Postgraduate Center, Mental Health and Shoeman, March & Updike in NY as Director of Human Resources and at the Cancer Prevention Research Institute in NY. Earlier she worked at the French American Chamber of Commerce in NY as the Manager of Visitors Exchange Program and Rockefeller University in NY as Assistant Director for Personnel and Faculty Administration.  She lives in Cortlandt Manor.
