Actor Michael Beasley and STARZ invites you to the Atlanta screening of "Magic City"

March 28, 2012 - PRLog -- ATLANTA, GA - Renown Actor Michael Beasley and STARZ rolls out the Red Carpet for the Atlanta screening of Magic City on Monday, April 2, 2012.  Fashionista’s, Trendsetter’s and Tastemakers will all grace the Red Carpet Event at Aurum Lounge, 915 Peachtree Street, Atlanta, GA 30309, which begins at 7:00 pm.  The Magic City screening begins promptly at 8:00 pm with a Cocktail Soiree immediately following. Michael Beasley's role is "Grady James."  Grady is a former Heavy Weight Champion boxer who now has a shoe shine business at the Miramar Playa Hotel. Mr. James is the understated right-hand man of Ike Evans (Actor Jeffrey Deans Morgan). Grady James is very much in touch with all that goes on at the hotel and has known Ike well before he became the "King" of the Beach.

Michael is one of Hollywood's "Hardest Working Actors." Currently Michael has a recurring role in STARZ's new TV series called "Magic City" as "Grady James." He is also currently co-starring in a remake of the movie "Steel Magnolias" also starring Queen Latifah, Alfre Woodard, Phylicia Rashad, Jill Scott, Adepero Oduye and Rashad’s daughter, Condola Rashad. "Steel Magnolias" will premiere on Lifetime Channel. Michael is one of the stars, along with Mark Wahlberg, in the movie "Contraband". Michael is also starring in Lions Gate's sci-fi film called "The Bay" which was directed by Director Barry Levinson. Michael has supporting roles in several feature films premiering in 2012-2013. The films include "Journey 2 : The Mysterious Island", also starring Dwayne Johnson, Michael Caine, Luiz Guzman and Vanessa Hudgens, "The Odd Life of Timothy Green" starring Jennifer Garner, “Flight" starring Denzel Washington, Don Cheadle, John Goodman and Bruce Greenwood, "Arthur Newman, Golf Pro" starring Colin Firth, and the feature films "Hero," "Unconditional," "American Reunion" and "Papa." Mr. Beasley was also seen in a Season 5 episode of "Burn Notice" as "Detective Tau."

In 2010-2011, Michael had a supporting role as "Luther" in the Lifetime Movie Network original movie, "The Wronged Man," starring Julia Ormond. He can also be seen guest-starring in Tyler Perry's hit TV show, "Meet the Browns" as the "Bailiff." He also had leading and supporting roles in several other feature and short films which hit the film festival circuit in 2011-2012. They include "I Love You Phillip Morris" starring Jim Carrey and Ewen McGregor, "Survivor Type," "Of Course," and "Smoked." Michael has one of the lead roles on the web series called, "The A," in which he is "Otis."

Michael had supporting roles and guest-starring appearances in several feature films and television shows in 2009. Some of the films were, the award-winning feature film, “Mississippi Damned” starring D.B. Woodside, "American Violet" starring Charles Dutton and Alfre Woodard, and "Road Trip 2 : Beer Pong." Michael had recurring appearances as "Mike Wilson", in the CW's hit TV show "One Tree Hill." He also guest-starred in Lifetime's hit TV shows "Army Wives" as "Sgt. Vance" and "Drop Dead Diva" as the "Jury Foreman."

Denzel Washington recognized Michael’s star qualities while casting him in the movie, “The Great Debaters,” starring Denzel Washington and Forest Whitaker. In an interview with TV One’s Cathy Hughes, Denzel is quoted as saying, “I went through hundreds and hundreds of auditions all over the nation and each person won their part. Everyone had to go thru me, because my name was on it.”

Born and raised in Omaha, Nebraska, Michael caught the acting bug several years ago, when his father, John Beasley, came to Atlanta to perform in Kenny Leon’s production of “Jitney", at The Alliance Theater. Michael played professional basketball, mainly overseas (Puerto Rico, Argentina, Dominic Republic, Chile, and Mexico). He knew he couldn't play basketball forever and decided to reinvent himself as an actor. Michael decided to pursue his acting career full time in 2005.

Michael studied with his father John and brother Tyrone Beasley at the family’s theater in Omaha, The John Beasley Theater and Workshop. He performed in several theater productions including, “Two Trains Running,” “Jitney,” and “Death of a Salesman.” In Atlanta, he honed his skills at the Renaissance Project in Decatur, Georgia, in the productions, “Miss Evers’ Boys,” “Jitney,” and “To Kill a Mockingbird.”

In 2007, Michael had a supporting role in “American Violet,” as "Tony Flair," starring Charles Dutton and Xzibit. He also has a supporting role in the horror film “April Fool’s Day” as the "Kitchen Staffer." Michael had a guest-star appearance in an episode of “Kville” as "Grayson Mitchell," starring Anthony Anderson. He also played the role of a taxi cab driver in “ABC Primetime’s” study on “Ethical Dilemmas.” Michael was also seen on several national, regional, and local commercials.

With such a hectic schedule, Michael still finds time to run his companies. He is the founder of Isis Ra Films (pronounced "Eye-sis Ray) a film production company, No More Tears, LLC., a graphic design and marketing company, and Xtremely Well a clothing apparel line. .

The rest of the Beasley clan is getting into the act too. Michael’s brother, Tyrone Beasley, is both acting and directing. While Michael’s wife, Deena Beasley, filmed “Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans,” as "Maimouna," starring Nicholas Cage, Xzibit, Val Kilmer, and Eva Mendes. Michael’s two beautiful children, Malik (son) and Micah (daughter) are both aspiring actors and have been seen in several commercials and on the Golf Channel.

Michael knows to be successful in anything; you have to “Stay Ready! So You Don’t Have To Get Ready.” And never, never let someone else out work you. For Michael... the sky is the limit.

As Ike Evans rings in the New Year at his luxurious Miramar Playa Hotel, Havana falls to Castro’s rebels. It’s a turbulent time in Miami, but it’s THE place to be. The Kennedys, the mob and the CIA all hold court here. And Ike, he’s the star of his hotel.

But everything comes at a price.

To finance his dream, he sold his soul to mob boss Ben “The Butcher” Diamond. Ike’s wife Vera, a former showgirl, and his three kids think he’s an honorable man, but he can’t break his pact with the devil. His life is a façade.

In fact, nothing at theMiramar Playa is what it seems. By day, it’s diving clowns and cha-cha lessons.  By night, escorts have secret liaisons with husbands in the family cabanas, while Miami’s seedier residents and the law drift together to hear legendary singers, musicians and comics.
