Fuel Strike Fear Fuels Cycle Boom

April 2, 2012 - PRLog -- Fears of a fuel strike have heightened tensions on the nation’s forecourts and precipitated a panic buying splurge that has created its own shortage situation at the pumps. So is this the final straw for many long-suffering motorists? Perhaps, as a further upshot of the petrol panic, has been a surge in cycle sales – prompted no doubt by the prospect of queues on forecourts versus the hassle and cost free cycle commute and travel about town option – especially as the threat of strike has coincided with this year’s first summery weather.  

Evans Cycles, the UK’s No 1 cycle retailer, reports a week on week increase of 57% for sales of its hybrid bike models, favoured by urban cyclists and commuters (sales from all stores - week ending Friday 23rd March versus week ending Friday 30th March). Last week was also the retailer’s busiest of the year for Ride2Work vouchers being issued, with sales of Ride2Work scheme bikes up 10% year on year.
