The wheels of The Black Doll Affair movement began turning in 2007. Four years later, for its commitment in philanthropy and efforts to change the way black girls and women are perceived and perceive themselves; BDA has garnered thousands of supportive members called The Black Dolls. Entities such as Essence Magazine, The Tom Joyner Morning Show, The Microsoft Company, Meetup Inc., Mattel and the Dove Campaign for Real Beauty have each given a lift to the BDA little movement that could. In 2009, supported by Georgia’s Governor, Mayor, Atlanta City Council, GA House of Representatives and the GA State Senate, BDA received a Proclamation for Black Doll Affair Day [December 12] in the State of Georgia! The Black Dolls went on invitation to Congressman John Lewis’ Washington DC office and President Obama's White House. Recently, BDA received a Volunteer Service Award from President Obama. In 2005, Hill, the Founder of BDA, put up a self-reflecting billboard at the corner of 52nd and Broadway in Times Square, closed her eyes and made a wish. A self-promoting African American model, publicist and marketer, Hill’s wish was for corporate giants and advertising powerhouses to see her likeness and be inspired to use more African Americans in their marketing campaigns. The concept was simple, diversity. Hill’s “Got Spokesmodel? "Macy's and The Black Doll Affair share a couple of key interests - we are fashion and community oriented.
