Follow on Google News | Father/Son Race for Military FamiliesHope For The Warriors® is proud to announce the expansion of its stock car racing team. The creator of the team will be joined by his 13-year-old son, Travis Hanson Jr. The father/son team will race in several key locations along the east coast.
“As a retired combat veteran, I believe strongly in the cause of Hope For The Warriors®,” Hanson Sr.’s interest in driving the Hope For The Warriors® Racing Car began years ago when Hope For The Warriors® was just beginning as an organization. As a Marine, he knew Lt. Col. Timothy Maxwell, USMC, a wounded Marine whose wife cofounded Hope For The Warriors® alongside Robin Kelleher, the current President. In its infancy however, the nonprofit was not prepared to take on the adventurous plan. Now, the organization is excited for the new avenues that the Racing Team will open. “We are thankful to this father and son team for their efforts to further the racing team and honor our military members,” Robin Kelleher, Hope For The Warriors® President said. “We are excited for the awareness they will bring to thousands of patriotic racing fans.” Hanson Jr. grew up learning a great deal about both the military and cars from his father. Hanson Sr. retired from the Marine Corps in 2009, after deploying to both Iraq and Afghanistan. After his retirement, he remained in the Jacksonville, NC area and took a position as a program manager for a defense contracting company – ProSol. Beyond the Marine Corps and his second career, father and son spent a great deal of time together in the garage and at the race track. Hanson Jr. already had experience driving go-karts and dirt bikes; this is his first year racing stock cars. Hope For The Warriors® Racing Team has four cars: Late Model Stock Car, an “INEX” Legends Car, a Mod4/Mini Stock and a U-Car. The Hanson Family Team will race the four cars at multiple locations: Coastal Plains Raceway Park, Jacksonville, NC; Old Dominion Speedway, Manassas, VA; and Langley Speedway, Hampton, VA.
