I know we are, but with airlines charging for hold luggage, staff at abiento have put together some tips on how you can get away with just carry on luggage but still look Fab on your well earned break.
By: abiento The problem these days is that charter and low cost airlines are getting greedy and charge for hold luggage. At abiento we think you can still look Fab on holiday but get away with only cabin luggage which is typicaly 10kg in weight. There are other benefits to this as you don`t` need to lug heavy luggage around the airport and on and off coaches at the resort. So we have put together some tips for your holiday from the experiences of some of our staff. First lay out the clothes you think you will need for your holiday. This will most likely take up an area the size of a small room so we need to take a look at what items are doubling up and therefore taking up valuable space and weight in your luggage. Shoes and jeans tend to weigh heavy so ask yourself, do I really need a different pair of shoes for each day, or when will I actually be wearing jeans if the weather is going to be hot? We all may think that everyone takes notice of what we wear each day but to be honest, if you stopped any of your fellow tourists and told them you would give them a million pounds if they could tell you what shoes you wore yesterday, they would probably have difficulty telling you. So, you need a pair of comfy sandals or mules for walking around during the day and a dressier pair of sandals or mid heels for the evening. Try a neutral colour such as beige rather than the standard black. Instead of jeans, take linen trousers or light cotton shorts. Notice how light linen trousers are to denim. Just make sure if you go with white linen, that you have access to clothes washing facilities as nothing looks worse than grubby linen! A Sarong is a versatile addition to your case in that you can use it for covering up your swim suit when you head from the beach to the cocktail bar for lunch but it can also be used as light shawl in the evening with your aforementioned linen trousers. There are some beautiful sarongs on the market at the moment in bright patterns so if you are concerned that someone may claim the £1 million wager, your beautiful Sarong will guide their eyes to your shoulders and away from your feet and leg area. Underwear should be kept light for the evening so keep to light lace or cotton but do remember that it can be hot and sticky during the day, so if you plan on doing plenty of walking, take a look at some short type underwear with a longer leg as this will help prevent unwanted rubbing. Nothing will spoil your fantastic look more than turning up to the restaurant in the evening and having to walk like John Wayne! Light weight tops are available in a number of styles so make sure you take 2 or 3 with a different neck line so that you even up the exposure to the sun. Even though it can be hot during the day, depending on the time of year, it can be cool in the evening so a light cardigan or jumper will be very welcome especially if a breeze gets up. The only problem is that knitwear can weigh heavier so since the airlines only weigh your case at check in, try to wear as many items as possible, then once through security, pop them into your hand luggage. Be sensible though, as wearing too many items will make you look like the Michelin Man and may raise suspicion from the Airport Security guards. Now then, we all like to think we need to take the full contents of our bathroom cabinet on holiday with us and the makers of sub 100ml products realise this and are making a killing from over priced holiday items such as deoderants and shampoos. Why not just take your faviourite perfume and a little makeup and then when you get to the resort, check out the local supermarket and buy what you need then? They are usually that inexpensive that you can just leave them in the room at the end of the holiday raher than bringing them home. Things like body moisturisers can be bought and are usually brands that you easily recognise. Also don`t forget that you will most probably pick up some colour to your face so there is no need to take blushers and foundation as only a bit of lippy and eye makeup is required in the evening. Think of the rest this will give your skin as well! Same goes for sun lotions. You will notice that in warmer countries, it is very difficult to get less than factor 15. There is a very good reason for this. It means that they know how strong their sun is and how easily it burns the skin. Don`t` fall into the trap of thinking that it is not too hot today or it is cloudy so I will be fine.Tempertaure has little relevance to getting burnt. We have been in California in Autumn and the temperature has been 105 Deg F, but we did not get burnt. No, it is the UV index you need to pay attention to. It is a numbering system of 1-10 and anything above 10 is classed as "10+Extreme" So if you insist on a tan from your holiday, (there are some fantastic false tan products on the market by the way), make sure you wear at least factor 30 on your shoulders, forehead, nose and ears and a minimum of 15 everywhere else. Also take note of the saying regarding mad dogs and Englishmen. Keep out of the sun from 12 untill 3pm unless you are wearing a hat and are covered up. Again, pay attention to your exposed shoulder area as your Fab looking evening outfit will certainly lose its allure if you turn up looking like a lobster. So just a few tips from abiento. Enjoy your holidays and remember, think light and stylish this year. Safety Note from abiento: It is your full responsibility to take care when being exposed to the sun. You must take precautions when exposing yourself to sunlight and should take the above tips as guidlines only.
