Drilling Waste Management solutions

April 23, 2012 - PRLog -- Many drilling operations have strategies in place for drilling-fluid recovery and will have established some general guidelines for the disposal of materials classified as waste. Present the engineer managing the solids-control equipment with the issue of whether to discard or recycle some types of waste and how to do it. If disposal costs are not a factor, then all waste can be disposed of and treated, if necessary, onsite or sent to a processor offsite. If recycle some of the products to the mud system, it may prove economical to do so.
The first step in managing drilling waste is to separate the solid cuttings from the liquid drilling mud. Once solid and liquid drilling waste have been separated, companies can use a variety of technologies and practices to manage the waste.

If the solids collected by the shale shakers are still coated with so much mud that they are unsuitable for the next reuse or disposal step or if the used mud is valuable enough to collect as much of it as possible, the solids can be further treated with drying shakers,usually called High G shaker, High G dryer, utilizing high gravitational separation.

The cuttings dryers recover additional mud and produce dry, powdery cuttings.vertical cutting dryer is used to separate cuttings from oil-based mud and strip most of the mud from the cuttings’ surfaces before disposal.
