Follow on Google News | High Local Rape Counts Spurs Activist To Host Community Safety Event At Detroit ChurchDetroit Firearms Instructor will run a "Keep The Ladies Safe" event to certify women participants as eligible to submit Concealed Pistol License applications to the state of Michigan. In the first quarter of 2012, 274 rapes were reported in Detroit.
By: Rick Ector A CPL will enable the women to carry concealed firearms on their person or in their vehicles to use as a tool of last resort against the attacks of violent predators. According to Ector, he felt a need to lend his services to help safeguard the women of Detroit. He stated, "The current state of affairs with respect to public safety in our city is deplorable. Just the other week a woman cradling her baby in her arms while she was walking down the street in broad daylight was attacked by a would-be rapist. The victim managed to get away from his clutches but not before she was shot in the back. It is my hope to train and empower women in Detroit with skills to protect themselves. Detroit is not safe for women right now." Ector has partnered with a local Detroit church - Fenkell Gospel Temple (2600 Fenkell Avenue, Detroit, MI) - to conduct this all day training event. Further, Sgt Twana Powell, a 19 year veteran of the Michigan State Police Department will also be presenting safety info during the event. The majority of her career has been serving the Detroit Metro Area specializing in violent crimes, car jackings, and crimes against children. Not only will women participants receive a discounted tuition rate but a portion of the proceeds will be donated to the church. Women interested in the training, should contact church representative Mr. Ken Kareem at (248) 469-6248. Rick Ector is a National Rifle Association credentialed Firearms Trainer, who provides Michigan CCW/CPL Class training in Detroit for students at his firearms school - Rick's Firearm Academy of Detroit.
