ESG Solutions to Deliver Short Course at the 6th International Conference on Mass Mining

ESG Solutions will deliver a half-day workshop on advanced seismic analysis for mining and geotechnical applications at the upcoming 6th International Conference on Mass Mining at Laurentian University in Sudbury, Ontario, Canada.

May 15, 2012 - PRLog -- ESG Solutions, an industry leader in microseismic technology and services is pleased to announce an upcoming workshop on advanced seismic analysis for mining and geotechnical applications.  This half-day short course titled “Advanced Seismic Analysis and Interpretation for Mass Mining” will take place on June 10, 2012 as part of the 6th International Conference on Mass Mining at Laurentian University in Sudbury, Ontario, Canada.

“ESG is honoured to have the opportunity to deliver this short course at such a prestigious conference” said Dr. Cezar Trifu, EVP of Mining and Geotechnical Services for ESG.  “We are looking forward to presenting the latest evolution of advanced microseismic analysis, and demonstrating the value of integrating microseismic monitoring with mine operations.” Held every four years, the International Conference on Mass Mining is expected to attract over 700 delegates from all major mining companies around the world to discuss the latest advances in bulk mining.

The course focuses on new advances in seismological analysis and interpretation of mine seismicity using computationally intensive techniques.  Recent increases in computing power and development of seismic algorithms have created new opportunities to extract valuable information from seismic data.  “In-depth analysis of full-waveform microseismic data is recognized as one of the best tools available to geotechnical engineers to assess rock mass response to mining operations” says Dr. Zara Hosseini, Mining Sales Manager at ESG. “Seismic monitoring is no longer considered as just a daily safety tool.  Engineers use information provided through advanced seismic methods to better understand rock mass behaviour in order to optimize mine operations as well as improve safety.”

Conducted by Dr. Cezar Trifu, Dr. Dave Collins, Dr. Yuzo Toya and Dr. Zara Hosseini, “Advanced Seismic Analysis and Interpretation for Mass Mining” will cover topics such as ray tracing and event location for complex media, identification and characterization of trends in seismicity, advances in re-entry protocols following large magnitude events and stress distribution analysis using seismic source mechanisms.  As experts in the field of microseismic monitoring, they hope to communicate to engineers, managers, geologists and seismologists the benefits of incorporating in-depth analysis of seismic data into decision making processes for mine development.
