May 31, 2012 - PRLog -- (Cape Cod, MA)  Cape-based author Devon Ellington shares the value of the art, archetype, and inspiration in the Tarot to artists across a wide spectrum of forms on Saturday, June 16 from 2-5 PM at Three Fish and a Ram in Mashpee.  This is a workshop for artists and aspiring artists in all media (writing, fine art, fiber, clay, video, performance, etc.) on using the history, mystery, and possibilities of the tarot as inspiration. Tarot is not fortune telling, not evil, not scary.  It’s created from archetypes hardwired into the human psyche, speaking on universal levels to us as humans.
“Tarot can be used to inspire new work or to break through current artistic blocks,” says Ellington, who has worked with the cards for years along Jungian principles.  “There’s nothing evil or frightening about it.  It speaks deeply to the human psyche.  There’s beauty and meaning that can speak to us on many levels.”
The three hour workshop will give background of the tarot and basic principles of reading, then expand into exercises to explore different creative uses for the archetypes in one’s own art.   Handouts provided.  Participants must bring:  notebook and/or sketch pad, pens, tarot deck, positive attitude, and a willingness to experiment.  (note: please bring a tarot deck, not an oracle deck -- oracle decks are quite different).
Ellington wrote for Llewellyn Worldwide’s calendars and almanacs for sixteen years, as Cerridwen Iris Shea, and teaches tarot and writing workshops around the world.  A full-time writer, relocated from New York, she publishes under a half a dozen names in fiction and non-fiction.  Her plays are produced in New York, London, Edinburgh, and Australia.  She teaches online and in-person, and her dedicated writing students have a high publication ratio.  For more information, visit her website at www.devonellingtonwork.com/workshops.html.
