Follow on Google News | The Goochland Legend Comes To Life As One Local Family Fills A VoidThe Jandzinski Family To Open Devil Monkey Ice Cream Parlor in Courthouse Village, capturing the heart of the community and the fun of the 40-year-old local legend
By: www.silentpartnermedia.net Goochland’s own specialty ice cream and dessert shop is coming this spring and its name may surprise you. “Devil Monkey Ice Cream Parlor” is scheduled to open this June in the courthouse area of Goochland County, offering locally made ice cream, a selection of specialty desserts, and fresh waffle cones, as well as sodas and other beverages including iced and regular coffee. The shop is the realization of a longtime dream for John and Kristin Jandzinski. Over the years Kristin’s love for baking gave way to fun treats and themed cakes for the kids’ birthdays. Soon she was baking for her kids’ friends’ birthdays and school events. John, on the other hand, has an extensive background in sales. He enjoys meeting new people and taking on new challenges. With the couple’s passions and the family’s shared love of ice cream they have talked for years about opening their own dessert shop. They both believe in the power of a local business. As John puts it, “They give a sense of community orientation and fill a social void. Big businesses can never have that personal touch that a small business has.” So, why the “Devil Monkey?” When this family of five moved to Goochland over five years ago, their oldest daughter’s friend told them the legend about a crazed devil monkey running around the woods of Goochland. As Kristin recalls, “I thought that was a fun story. Ever since then, when I take the dog out for a walk and it’s dark outside, if I hear a noise in the woods, the first thing that pops into my mind is - maybe it's the devil monkey. So when it came to naming the ice cream parlor, we wanted something fun that would be relevant to Goochland-Devil Monkey came to mind right away.” The “Devil Monkey Ice Cream Parlor” is scheduled to open the first weekend in June. It will be open Tuesday through Sunday. The public can visit the shop’s Facebook page for the latest information on the opening at www.facebook.com/ End
