Follow on Google News | Alesha Dixon and Will Young Launch Avon and Women's Aid's Empowering Women Awards 2012Alesha Dixon and Will Young last night launched the 2012 Empowering Women Awards, hosted by Avon Cosmetics and national charity Women’s Aid, at a star studded event at the Soho Hotel, London.
Alesha Dixon, Avon’s Beauty and Empowerment Ambassador, commented: “As a child I witnessed the terrible and devastating effects of domestic violence first hand. These awards are a brilliant opportunity to admire and celebrate the achievements and courage of those who stand up against domestic violence. Now I am calling on others to nominate themselves or someone they know, so that they too can be recognised for their bravery.” From today, nominees for the awards can be put forward by the public at www.avon.uk.com. Finalists will then be selected by a judging panel of inspirational patrons including Avon’s Beauty and Empowerment Ambassador, Alesha Dixon; pop star and Ambassador for Women’s Aid, Will Young; child survivor and Ambassador for Women’s Aid, Charlie Webster; Avon UK Sales Director, Angela Tucker; Women’s Aid Co-Chair, Beverley Pass and Marie Claire editor, Trish Halpin. This year’s award categories include Woman Survivor of the Year, Grass Roots Hero, Child Survivor of the Year and Outstanding Contribution (Judges' Choice). Last year’s remarkable winners; Sadi Khan, Woman Survivor of the Year and Alec Hopkins, Child Survivor of the Year were also present at the launch to share their experiences and encourage others to enter this year’s awards.
