Smart Mobile – Celebrating the Green Day!

June 8, 2012 - PRLog -- Phnom Penh, June 4th, 2012 -- The World Environment Day (WED) commemorated every year on the 5th of June is one of the principal vehicles through which the United Nations stimulates worldwide awareness of the environment protection issues and enhances political attention and action. As always, Smart Mobile is fully engaged in this Clean and Green Day.

“Our ‘green’ concept in its wide meaning is reflected in the color of the Smart Mobile’s logo, that is why we love to see everyone come together to celebrate the World Environment Day. We have to remember that all environment protection activities are not only for the sake of our own green living, but mostly for the next generations to live in green and healthy environment,” said Mr. Thomas Hundt, CEO of Latelz Co., Ltd. The WED is an annual world event aiming at being the biggest and most widely celebrated global day for positive environmental action. It is also a day for people from all walks of life to come together to ensure a cleaner, greener and brighter outlook for themselves and future generations.

This year is the 40th World Environment Day. Since the UN Environment Programme (UNEP) was formed in 1972, the WED has been celebrated annually. In 2012, the WED is looking back at some of the notable previous celebrations and themes. And it came out that this year the WED Theme is - "Green Economy: Does it include you?"

Smart mobile is one of the leading mobile operators of Cambodia with a long history of engagement in the sphere of environment protection with local and international organizations, as well as private and governmental institutions, such as Ministry of Environment, Ministry of Tourism, Junior Chamber International (JCI) in Cambodia, Pour un Sourire d’Enfant (PSE), RULE University,  and many others.  The major goal of environmental activities supported by Smart Mobile, such as Clean City or Tree Planting Day, is to work together with students, communities and the public to encourage them to start taking care of their surroundings.

In addition, Smart Mobile has implemented a number of solutions inside its own organisation which help to reduce energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions, in other words to save the world. Such solutions include 9 fully solar powered Base Stations, a project conducted together with Maddox-Jolie-Pitt foundation, 10 wind turbines which generate energy to power Base Stations in distant areas, and 36 power generators equipped with a Charge-Discharge-Charge solution that allows to reduce average daily engine operation time and respectively emissions of CO2 by 58%.  Besides, Smart Mobile has taken an initiative to get rid of the plastic bags pollution by producing and distributing disposable and bio-degradable Eco Bags.

“These are only a few highlights of the Smart Mobile’s Environmental engagement. We welcome everyone to join this initiative and to take action making our world cleaner and greener. Also, we encourage everyone to clean-up, stop using plastic bags and straws, grow more trees, and change the behavior to using recycled materials,” said Mr. Hundt.
