The first National ADHD Youth Leadership Summit is a program of ADHD Aware, the 1st non-profit run by and for people with ADHD, and aims to empower children with ADHD. ADHD Aware is proud to announce a local winner of a scholarship for one parent and one child to attend the ADHD Youth Leadership Summit at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, PA.  The scholarship includes admission for one parent/guardian and one child, travel expenses for both and a hotel stay at the Sheraton University City in Philadelphia. The summit empowers children with ADHD to celebrate their uniqueness, learn leadership skills, meet others like them and learn strategies for success.

Courtney Lewis, a sixth grader, submitted a 2-minute video explaining how her ADHD, while hard sometimes, won’t stop her from being wants she wants to be.  As a special surprise, Andrea Kimberlin, Miss Kentucky United States 2012, who has ADHD, and who will be competing for the national title of Miss United States this July supporting ADHD Awareness as her platform, will be surprising Courtney at her softball game with the award and flowers.  Miss Kimberlin is looking forward to recognizing Courtney’s courage and states “This isn’t my crown, it’s a crown for every child and adult with ADHD.”

By joining a community of other people with ADHD, and taking part in leadership activities, the Summit will help children with ADHD learn strategies for success while celebrating their uniqueness. The Summit also offers separate parent workshops given by nationally recognized experts. Speakers include Dr. Patricia Quinn, Dr. Anthony Rostain, Dr. Russell Ramsey and many other luminaries in the field.  This is the first scholarship announced. Candidates can apply by sending their 2-minute video or an essay that says, "I have ADHD and I am..." or "I have ADHD and I can..." Consider answering the question, "How do you rock your world with ADHD." The video will be used for our "Change The World Campaign" and also be posted on YouTube. To submit, please email your video link to natalie@adhdaware.org by Friday, June 15, 2012.
