June 21, 2012 - PRLog -- A&E Network’s Bigg Marv, host of reality show Hammertime, will host a pre- Independence Day salute to U.S. troops on Sunday, July 1, beginning at 6 p.m. at Fort Hamilton, the only active duty military installation in New York City. The event will include a free concert featuring Grammy and BET Award-winning Atlantic recording artist Estelle, who will be joined by classic rock legend Eddie Money, country music crooner Canaan Smith, and Tommy Stanley, Nashville Star finalist and well-known recording artist with the Center for American Military Music Opportunities (C*A*M*M*O). Immediately following the concert will be a spectacular fireworks display by Grucci, a Long Island-based, five-generation family owned company that is considered one the world’s top names in fireworks.

This is the third consecutive year for this event, which is sponsored by Fort Hamilton Family, Morale, Welfare and Recreation (www.HamiltonMWR.com), in association with C*A*M*M*O’s Mission OneVoice (www.MissionOneVoice.org) and event producer Lerer Media (www.LererMedia.com). New York’s WQHT-Hot 97-FM and The New York Daily News have also signed on as media sponsors for the event, which will be particularly meaningful this year since it is being held in honor of a unit deploying to Afghanistan the following day.

“Being from a music and military family I appreciate Mission One Voice and C*A*M*M*O and the work they do for our service members and their families,” said Bigg Marv of A & E Networks’ Hammertime.

“Family Morale and Welfare has been providing valuable programs to service members and their families for decades and for over 5 years we have been together,” said Alycia Lerer of Lerer Media and founder of Mission One Voice. “During this time we have brought such artists as Patti LaBelle, Plain White T's, NeYo, Jamie Kennedy, Wendy Williams and more to pay tribute to them, as well as provide them with a welcome respite from the day-to-day pressures of military life.  It is an honor and a pleasure to pay tribute to those who make such a commitment to our country,” she added.

C*A*M*M*O Executive Director Cathie Lechareas echoed Lerer’s comments. “As we prepare to celebrate 236 years of our country’s independence, what better time than now to say thank you to those who continue to ensure that we are a free people. We owe them so much!”

Invited guests include soldiers from Fort Hamilton, the joint base Fort Dix, McGuire Air Force, Lakehurst Naval Station and the National Guard and Reserves units in the area, police and fire personnel, government employees, The Wounded Warrior Program and soldiers from West Point and Picatinny Arsenal, and their families, as well as all active duty military personnel, retirees and veterans, and their families.

All activities will take place at Fort Hamilton’s newly dedicated Sgt. Deon Taylor Ball Fields. Gates open for the general public at 4 p.m. and the concert will begin promptly at 6 p.m. Access and parking at the venue are extremely limited so it is recommended that attendees use public transportation wherever possible. While the event is free, pre-registration is necessary. For more information or to RSVP, go to www.MissionOneVoice.org. Bring valid identification (driver’s license, passport, or other photo ID) to gain entry at the gate (no exceptions, for security reasons).
