Costa Del Sol’s Delicious Gastronomical Heritage and Tradition on Offer This September

Over the last several years, Spain’s culinary reputation has risen on the international stage thanks to the likes of Ferran Adria, Paco Torreblanco and Dani Gracia.
 
June 27, 2012 - PRLog -- Offering up fresh and unique takes on traditional Iberian cuisine, Spanish chefs have vaulted the country’s cuisine to new levels of awareness, demanding global attention. However, amid all the excitement about novel techniques and gastronomical science, its important to take notice of the region’s rich cooking heritage and traditional origins.

Each September, just a short drive from Malaga, the village of Axarquia gathers to celebrate that culinary history when thousands of visitors and locals descend on the coast to enjoy the uniquely delicious seafood so typical in the region.

In its ninth year, the Fiesta del Boquerón Victoriano, considered a Fiesta de Singularidad Turística in the region, invites guests to sample the coastline’s succulent seafood from the 20th to the 23rd of the month.

In addition to traditional tastings, concernts and a children’s party, this year’s event will offer a glimpse of the best local chefs during an anchovey cooking competition
judged by  a jury that will include the likes of Dani Garcia, Angel Leon and Celia Jimenez , among others. They also present a demonstration of anchovey treatment and the most modern and innovative styles and presentation.  

Any visitor to the region of Axarquia, Costa del Sol in the days of the fiesta is encourgaed to seize the opportunity to get to know this beautiful town, situated near Torrox, to enjoy this unique tribute to one of the seafoods known in Malaga.

This year’s festivities begin with a conference dedicated to the Victorian Boquerón on the 20th of September. The second day will host the first contest I El Boqueron Victorian Kitchen, where chef Dani Garcia (two Michelin stars), Angel Leon (one Michelin star), Celia Jimenez (one Michelin star), Kisko Garcia (a star Michelin), Diego del Río (one Michelin star) and Adolfo Jaime will act as jury with Fernando Rueda and culinary journalist Esperanza Peláez.

This competition is open to culinary students. The three finalists will be awarded with the completion of an internship in the restaurants of some of the chefs participating in the jury. Subsequently, all the chefs will participate in a cooking show open to the public aimed at showing the treatment of Victorian anchovy dining in a modern and innovative style. Throughout the weekend, anchovy tastings, concerts and children’s events will take place.
