Follow on Google News | ‘Avengers’ Director Has ‘Husbands’ EnvyJoss Whedon Among Several Celebrities in Love with the Gay Marriage Sitcom
By: M4PR "'Husbands' is full of the kind of whip-smart remarks you wish you'd written yourself.” Quite the endorsement, considering The Avengers is now the 3rd highest grossing film of all time, and Whedon's status as a TV mogul (Buffy The Vampire Slayer, Firefly) and creator of the Emmy-winning online hit Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog. Whedon isn't alone in his admiration. Shortly after Husbands premiered in September of last year, NPR's Ira Glass ("This American Life") praised the series, calling it the show of the future. It seems that this year, Husbands has become the show of right now. Today, Husbands creators Jane Espenson (Once Upon a Time) and Brad Bell (VH1's Pop Up Video), reveal a sizeable cast of name performers who are joining the show's second season, which premieres August 15th. "Everyone who read it had this great reaction of 'I have to clear my schedule for this.' We were in danger of having more stars than we had roles for them to play," says Espenson. Among this season's additions to the cast is Internet powerhouse Felicia Day. Day says she's "thrilled to be a part of the Husbands universe," and creator Brad Bell hints, "You'll see Felicia in a way you've never seen her before." Also joining the cast is Amber Benson (CW's Supernatural) Emma Caulfield (Hulu's Leap Year, Bandwagon) reports "I immediately said yes. At the heart of any good story, there are characters the audience can relate to and root for, and Husbands has that and more." Echoing Caulfield's sentiment, is Aasha Davis, (ABC's Friday Night Lights) who starred in the festival darling Pariah and came to Husbands to be part of a political impact. Davis says, "I love when unparalleled stories are brought to light. To me, the best stories are insightful and entertaining." As for details of the highly anticipated script, Brad Bell says the new season is an uncompromising take on same-sex marriage and the current political climate. "There are shots being fired at the gay community, every day. I don't see a lot of firing back. Commentary within narrative can be tricky; it can be message-heavy. But that's why God made satire." About Husbands Husbands is directed by Jeff Greenstein (Desperate Housewives) and written by Jane Espenson (Once Upon A Time) & Brad Bell (VH1's Pop Up Video) and stars Brad Bell as Cheeks, a Kardashian-esque tabloid sensation and Sean Hemeon (Criminal Minds) as Brady Kelly, a recently out LA Dodger. When the two wake up drunk married in Vegas, a media firestorm erupts. Since divorce would mean career suicide, they're left with no choice but to make it work. "They're doing it wrong. That's their right." The show also features Alessandra Torresani (American Horror Story) as Haley. You can watch season one at http://www.HusbandsTheSeries.com.
