July 5, 2012 - PRLog -- Open to all European participants, the submissions process began on May 21st, 2012.

The city of Athens, which for the most of us, denotes one of the cradles of Ancient civilization, has seen her fair share of historical events over the past few thousand years, be they positive or negative. A part of the city’s pulsating centre is now the focus of a socially noble cause headed by the Alexander S. Onassis Public Benefit Foundation.

The Benefit Foundation’s European Architectural Competition known as “Rethink Athens” launched on May 21st 2012, aims to upgrade a part of Athens around Panepistimiou Street. The attempt to upgrade this suffering part of the city through a multifaceted organizational scheme maximizing entrepreneurial activity, introducing services, increasing the ratio of permanent residences and recreation and culture, will give this historical part of the city a new lease of life.

Those who wish to participate may visit the Competition's website at www.rethinkathenscompetition.org in order to submit their registration forms and download the Competition’s technical folder. Eligible participants must be from EU and the European Economic Area (EEA) member countries, or countries that have signed agreements within the framework of activities of the World Trade Organization.

The Competition will be realized in two stages. During the first stage (Ideas Competition) a number of entries will be selected whose designers will qualify and go through to the second stage (Concept Drawings Competition). The closing date for the first stage of the Competition will be September 7th 2012 and the results will be available from the competition site.  http://www.rethinkathenscompetition.org/competition.php#C...

Winners of the Competition will share cash prizes amounting to one hundred and sixty thousand Euros (€160,000).
